WHAT YOU CAN DO IN 2023
We are asking that, on August 28, 2023 at 3:00 PM (EST) (which is the time that Dr. King began delivering his speech) that you spend the following sixty minutes doing something for somebody that is peaceful, positive, and productive.
For example, organize a community clean up or peaceful protest; fill out a job or college application; interview someone else for a job; go to the local board of elections and register to vote; or go to the courthouse and sign up for jury duty; take your child to the park; tutor or mentor someone else’s child; volunteer an hour of your time at a food pantry or homeless shelter.
We’ve provided some specific suggestions for you below. Whatever you choose, the hope is that if enough people in your neighborhood get involved and engaged that you will have 60 minutes of peace in your community. That’s right… NO violence… That means NO assaults, NO homicides, etc for sixty minutes.
Indeed, what better way to celebrate and commemorate Dr. King’s speech, than to have a community with absolutely no incidences of violence for an entire 60 minutes.
It may sound like an impossible dream to some, but with each of us doing our part for 60 minutes, IT CAN HAPPEN.
